Biserica ,,Sfântul Dumitru” Câmpulung Moldovenesc

În 1833 a fost înfiinţată Parohia greco-catolică ruteană din Câmpulung, slujbele continuând să fie celebrate în lăcaşul de cult romano-catolic. Condicile matricole ale parohiei au fostîncepute în 1836.

În 1883, credincioşii greco-catolici ruteni şi-au construit la Câmpulung Moldovenesc o biserică de lemn cu hramul ,,Sf. Dumitru”. Printre cei care au contribuit la înălţarea acestui lăcaş de cult s-a aflat şi Iulian Kobyleanska, tatăl scriitoarei Olga Kobyleanska care a activat între anii 1874-1889 ca notar al Capitanatului Districtual Câmpulung. Biserica greco-catolică a fost sfinţită în 1895, ea fiind cunoscută o lungă perioadă ca ,,Biserica Rusească”. În 1910 s-a construit o casă parohială din piatră, apoi în 1927 o clopotniță de lemn lângă absida altarului. Pereţii interiori ai bisericii au fost pictaţi în anul 1936.

În anul 1948, prin decretul 358 din 1 decembrie, a fost desfiinţat cultul greco-catolic roman unit cu Roma, iar în anul 1952, prin decretul nr.7738 din 26 mai, dat de Ministerul Cultelor, a fost desfiinţat cultul greco-catolic ucrainean. Începând din anul 1952, Biserica Greco-Catolică Ruteană din România şi-a încetat existent. După desfiinţarea cultului greco-catolic rutean, fosta biserică greco-catolică din Câmpulung Moldovenesc a fost trecută de autorităţile statului în folosinţa comunităţii ortodoxe din oraş.

Parohia greco-catolică ucraineană Sfântul Dumitru din Câmpulung Moldovenesc a fost reînfiinţată la 19 februarie 1995.

Biserica ,,Sf. Dumitru” din Câmpulung Moldovenesc are formă de cruce, cu două abside laterale şi cu o turlă octogonală deasupra naosului. Acoperişul edificiului are o învelitoare din tablă de cupru. Catapetesma a fost confecţionată la Munchen (Germania).

St. Demetrius Church in Câmpulung Moldovenesc

The Church is located on 7, Ion Ştefureac Street, on the road that connects Campulung railway station to the civic center of the town.

The Greek Byzantine Catholicism spread in Câmpulung Moldovenesc at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century due to the arrival of ethnic Ukrainians in Bukovina (Suceava county) in order to find a job, especially because different ethnicities were living in Bukovina: Jewish, German, Polish and Ukrainian. Once settled in Campulung county, without having a church, they started going to liturgies to the Roman Catholic Church which was built in 1815.

In 1833 the Ruthenian Greek Byzantine Catholic Parish was founded in Campulung; the church services continued to be celebrated inside the Roman Catholic place of worship. The registry books of the parish were started in 1836.

In 1883, the Greek Byzantine Catholic Ruthenians built a wooden church dedicated to St. Demetrius in Campulung Moldovenesc. Among those who contributed to the erection of this house of worship was also Iulian Kobyleanska, the father of writer Olga Kobyleanska who served as a notary of Câmpulung Moldovenesc district from 1874 to 1889. The Greek ByzantineCatholic Church was consecrated in 1895, being known for a long period as “ The Russian Church ". In 1910 a parsonage was built of stone, and in 1927 a wooden belfry was built next to the apse of the altar. The interior walls of the church were painted in 1936.

In 1948, by Decree 358, from the 1st of December, the Romanian Greek ByzantineCatholic cult that was united with Rome was abolished, and in 1952, by Decree nr. 7738 from May 26th issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic cult was abolished. Since 1952, the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church from Romania ceased to exist. After the abolishment of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic cult, the former Greek Catholic church in Câmpulung Moldovenesc was brought by the state authorities into the service of the Orthodox community in the city.                                                    St. Demetrius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish of Câmpulung Moldovenesc was restored on the 19th of February 1995.

St. Demetrius Church in Câmpulung Moldovenesc has the shape of a cross, with two side apses and an octagonal tower above the nave. The roof of the building has sheet copper covering . The Iconostasis was made ​​in Munich (Germany).
