Colegiul Naţional „Ştefan Cel Mare” Suceava

În interior, la intrarea principală, un hol larg conduce către o scară monumentală cu o frumoasă lucrătură în fier forjat. În hol se păstrează un mic clopot cu care erau anunţate începutul şi sfârşitul orelor de curs şi bustul lui Ştefan cel Mare lucrat de Oscar Hann. Extinderile executate în anii 1960-1970, soldate cu construirea unor aripi laterale, au făcut ca în prezent edificiul să aibă forma literei U. Clădirea a beneficiat în ultimii ani de mai multe lucrări de restaurare şi conservare, de finisare a interioarelor şi a faţadelor – lucrate în praf de piatră şi mozaic.

În epoca austriacă, liceul a fost printre cele mai populate din întreaga monarhie, având, între anii 1908-1914, aproape 1000 de elevi şi 24-25 de clase paralele.

Pentru elevii şi profesorii Colegiului Naţional „Ştefan cel Mare” Suceava, pentru miile de absolvenţi ai acestuia şi chiar pentru oraşul Suceava, anul 2010 a  reprezentat un moment de sărbătoare: rotunda aniversare a 150 de ani de învăţământ preuniversitar performant în Bucovina.

Despre acest adevărat focar de cultură şi învăţătură din partea de nord a ţării, Eminescu însuşi avea să spună la timpul său: „Personalul didactic din Suceava este foarte bun, căci toţi profesorii sunt ieşiţi de la Facultatea de Litere şi Ştiinţe din Viena şi sunt români…; liceul din Suceava ar fi menit să devină foarte bun, dacă nu cel mai bun, institut secundar românesc.”…

Colegiul National „Stefan cel Mare” doreşte să rămână cea mai prestigioasă instituţie de învăţământ liceal din judeţ. Echipa de profesori şi colectivul de elevi ai colegiului îşi însuşesc creativ sloganul Uniunii Europene de azi „inovezi sau mori” şi rămân devotaţi sintagmei care ne defineşte profilul instituţional: „Mereu cei mai buni”.

Indiferent de numele pe care l-a purtat, liceul a fost mereu o instituţie-reper, în care profesori cu har i-au învăţat pe elevi că reuşita se obţine numai prin efort  personal, constant şi tenace. În prezent liceul este frecventat de circa 800 de elevi anual repartizaţi pe mai multe profile.

” Ștefan cel Mare" National College Suceava

On the 4^th of September, 1860 due to the efforts and requests of Romanian people from Bukovina to have schools with Romanian language teaching, it was inaugurated in Suceava, by the Order of the Ministry of Education from Austria " The superior Greek Oriental Gymnasium " that on the 2^nd of January, 1919 became "Stefan cel Mare" High School. Thus, the birth certificate of today's college has 4/09/1860 as date. Since the 1881-1882 school year, the first class with Romanian language teaching “was born”. The imposing building was erected at the end of the last century on the location of the Wood Market. Initially, the school operated inside the Town Hall building (next to St. Demetrius Church, now the Art School).

In 1895, the current building was inaugurated a solid construction, with two floors facing the street. The massive building of the current "Stefan cel Mare" National College, as well as the imposing building of the University in Chernivtsi, is built of stone and brick and it draws the attention by sobriety, balance and simplicity. On the inside, on the main entrance, a wide hallway leads to a monumental staircase with a beautiful wrought iron workmanship. In the hallway there is a small bell which used to announce the start and the end of classes; there is also athe bust of Ștefan cel Mare made by Oscar Hann. The extensions which were conducted from 1960 to1970, resulted in the construction of wings, resulting in the building currently being U –shaped. The building has benefited in recent years of several restorations and conservation works, in order to finish the interiors and facades – worked in stone and mosaic powder.

In the Austrian era, the school was among the most populous in the whole monarchy, with from 1908 to1914, nearly 1000 students and 24-25 parallel classes.

For the students and teachers of "Stefan cel Mare" National College, for its thousands of graduates and even for Suceava town, the year 2010 was a time of celebration: The round anniversary of 150 years of highly university education in Bukovina.

About this true hearth of culture and education in the north of the country, Eminescu himself had to say in his time:

" The teachers from Suceava are great, because all the teachers are out of the Faculty of Letters and Sciences from Vienna and are Romanian people … ; the high school from Suceava would be designed to be very good if not the best, Romanian secondary institute . "

           "Stefan cel Mare" National College wants to remain the most prestigious institution of high school education in the county. The team of teachers and the students of the college are learning creatively the slogan of European Union from today "innovate or die " and they remain committed to the phrase that defines our institutional profile : "Always the best" .

   Regardless of the name that it bore, the school has always been a landmark institution in which inspiring teachers taught the students that success is only achieved through constant and tenacious personal effort. Today the high school is attended by about 800 students annually, distributed on several profiles.
