Palatul Naţional Român /The Romanian National Palace

  La înfiinţare, în 1901, biblioteca deţinea circa 1000 de cărţi, iar azi, făcând un arc peste timp, biblioteca este cu mult mai bogată, ajungându-se la 70.000 volume de bibliotecă. Personalitatea instituţiei s-a conturat şi prin ancorarea în specificul zonei, acumulând fond de carte ştiinţifică în domeniile: silvicultură, geologie, industrie forestieră, turism, medicină popularizată, monografii locale.

Secţiile bibliotecii, colecţiile de artă, sălile speciale, manifestările complexe, iniţiate sau găzduite de bibliotecă, au atras paşii dornenilor sau ai celor veniţi pentru scurt timp pe aceste meleaguri pentru a-şi fortifica sănătatea sau pentru a se relaxa. Structura enciclopedică a fondului de carte, numărul mare de abonamente la diverse publicaţii, colaborarea şi parteneriatul cu alte instituţii (şcolare, culturale, mass-media), cu edituri de prestigiu, cu personalităţi ale culturii naţionale, fac din biblioteca dorneană un spaţiu de elevaţie culturală.

De-a lungul timpului, simpozioanele, concursurile, expoziţiile, schimburile de experienţă, serile literare, lansările de carte, întâlnirile cu scriitori, oameni de ştiinţă, academicieni etc., i-au marcat spiritualiceşte pe participanţi. În memoria bibliotecii dornene se pot enumera nume şi fapte, cum ar fi: I.P.S. Valeriu Anania – prieten cu dramaturgul dornean Ion Luca; academicianul Constantin Ciopraga – ce a conferenţiat despre „Iaşii” , pe vremea Teodorenilor; sucevean Nicolae Cârlan, cel ce e realizat Sala memorială „Ion Luca” din cadrul bibliotecii; eminescologul D. Grumăzescu; academicianul Mihai Cimpoi – preşedintele Uniunii scriitorilor din Republica Moldova; sriitorul Platon Pardău; pictorul Liviu Suhar; sculptorul Ion Irimescu; pictorul Th. V. Moraru; Nicolae Manolescu; Leonida Lari; Ion Cozmei; Leo Butnaru; Arcadie Suceveanu; istoricul Nichita Adăniloaie; Ion Ţugui, Ion Beldeanu; Mihai Iacobescu; Emil Satco etc. La acestea se adaugă întâlniri ale cititorilor cu reprezentanţi ai revistelor: „Cronica”, „Astra”, „Ateneu”, „Tribuna” şi ai editurilor Humanitas, All, Teora, Institutul European, Dacia, Rao, Macmillan ş. a.

Biblioteca organizează în permanenţă activităţi specifice dedicate unor mari personalităţi ale culturii şi literaturii române, dar şi unor evenimente istorice, unor zile de importanţă naţională, având colaboratori şcolile din localitate, Liceul Teoretic „Ion Luca”, Casa de cultură, Asociaţia Scriitorilor şi Artiştilor din Ţara Dornelor, Asociaţia Culturală Pro Basarabia şi Bucovina, scriitori dorneni, radio Orion, radio Dorna etc.

Asemenea multor biblioteci din ţară, s-au făcut paşi importanţi spre informatizare, biblioteca achiziţionând, încă din 2009, Programul Bibliophil, în momentul de faţă bibliotecarii lucrând intens la introducerea datelor în acest program.

Biblioteca dorneană a fost  printe primele biblioteci care a beneficiat de implementarea Programul „Biblionet – lumea în biblioteca mea” (2009), asigurând astfel, accesul gratuit la Internet pe un număr de 6 calculatoare şi dezvoltând servicii axate pe nevoia comunităţii.

O altă latură a activităţii bibliotecarilor dorneni este deservirea cititorilor cu deficienţe de vedere. Astfel, a fost implementat şi la biblioteca dorneană sistemul Daisy, cărţi destinate exclusiv persoanelor  cu deficienţe de vedere sau cu dificultăţi de citire. În final putem spune că, pentru mulţi dintre dornenii dornici de cunoaştere, biblioteca a fost, este şi va rămâne un spaţiu de lectură şi de meditaţie, de cercetarea cu respect a înţelepciunii semenilor noştri, dar şi o instituţie a viitorului deschizând orizonturi nelimitate de informare, formare şi comunicare interumană.

The Romanian National Palace (Library "G.T. Kirileanu")

In 1901 Mayor Vasile Deac built the Romanian National Palace – the future headquarters of the town library. The building cost 40,000 crowns, a large part of the necessary funds being  raised from donations offered by members of the Romanian Cultural Society Sentinela. At its opening, the building had 8 rooms upstairs and 7 downstairs, but only 3 spaces of the new edifice  were made ​​available to the Reading Cabinet Sentinela.

Also in 1901, the motto of Romanian society since that time was applied on the frontispiece of the building – In Union there is Power – a document that has remained until today.

Over time library spaces were used for various purposes, including school education. Only in 1975 the building resumes its original purpose as public library. The library was named "G. T. Kirileanu " (personality of Vatra Dornei with a wide humanistic culture, former librarian of the Royal House) in 1992.

Upon its foundation in 1901, the library owned about 1,000 books but today, making a review, the library is incomparably richer, reaching 70,000 library volumes. The institution gained more visibility also byemphasising the specific features  of the area, accumulating scientific book collections in the fields of forestry, geology, forest industry, tourism, popularized medicine, local monographs.

Library departments, art collections, special rooms, complex events initiated or hosted by the library, attracted both inhabitants or those coming for a city break  in order to fortify their health or to relax. The encyclopedic structure of the book contents, the large number of subscriptions to various publications, the collaboration and partnership with other institutions (academic, cultural, mass-media) with prestigious publishing houses, personalities of national culture, turn the library of Vatra Dornei  into  an elevated cultural place.

Over time, symposiums, competitions, exhibitions, exchange of experience, literary evenings, book launches, meetings with writers, scientists, academics etc.,  marked spiritually the members. In the record of Vatra Dornei library   may cite names and facts, such as I.P.S Valeriu Anania – friend of playwright Ion Luca from Vatra Dornei academician Constantin Ciopraga – he talked on "Jassy", on time of Teodorenii; writer Nicolae Cârlan from Suceava, who has set up the ​​memorial hall "Ion Luca" within the library; D. Grumazescu scholar specialized in the literary work of Mihai Eminescu; academician Mihai Cimpoi – the Presidentof Writers` Union of the Republic of Moldova;  writer Platon Pardău, painter Liviu Suhar , sculptor Ion Irimescu, painter Th. V. Moraru, Nicolae Manolescu, Leonida Lari, Ion Cozmei, Leo Butnaru; Arcadie Suceveanu, historian Nichita Adăniloaie; Ion Ţugui, Ion Beldeanu, Mihai Iacobescu, Emil Satco etc. Thereto adds meetings of founders with representatives of the magazines: "Chronicle", "Astra", "Athenaeum", "Court" and the publishings Humanitas, All, Teora, European Institute, Dacia, Rao, Macmillan etc.

The library continues to organize specific activities dedicated to great personalities of Romanian culture and literature, but also dedicated to some historical events, significant national days, cooperating with local schools, High School "Ion Luca", the Cultural Centre , the Association of Writers and Artists of Dorna County, Pro Bessarabia and Bukovina Cultural Association, writers of Vatra Dornei, radio Orion, radio  Dorna etc.

Like many libraries in the country, important steps towards computerization have been made, as in 2009, the library purchased  Bibliophil program (software), librarians  working intensively on entering data into this new program.

Vatra Dornei Library was among the first libraries where the implementation of the programme "Biblionet – world in my library" (2009) was carried out, thus providing free Internet access on a total of 6 computers and developing services focused on the needs of the community.

Another task of the librarians of Vatra Dornei is to assist visually impaired readers. Therefore, Daisy system has also been implemented in Vatra Dornei library , including books exclusively intended for people with visual impairments or reading difficulties. Finally we can say that for many of the inhabitants who are eager to learn, the library has always been a place for reading and meditation, for the respectful studyof wisdom provided by our fellows but also an institution of the future opening endless horizons of information, training and interpersonal communication.
